Pembrokeshire Coast Path — Planning Notes

These are condensed, reorganised planning notes (not a verbatim copy of the site) covering

the 15 official sections of the trail, north to south (St Dogmaels → Amroth), roughly 186 miles / 299 km total.

Each section has its own file with distance, difficulty, hazards, facilities and highlights.

No embedded/interactive map was found on the official pages — see `99-map-notes.md` for what's available instead (GPX/route-planning alternatives).

Cross-cutting notes

Direction of travel: most official guides (and the numbering above) run north–south, St Dogmaels to Amroth. You can walk either way.
No stiles on most southern sections nowadays — the Park Authority has been replacing stiles with gates. A few named exceptions are called out in section 1, 10 and 14 notes.
Tidal crossings / beach routes: several sections have a tidal shortcut (beach/causeway) plus a longer high-tide road alternative. Always check tide times before relying on the low-tide route — flagged per-section below where relevant (notably Dale–Neyland's Gann and Sandy Haven crossings, and Newport, Solva, Sandy Haven and Amroth-area beach walks).
Castlemartin Range (section 13): part of the path crosses an active military firing range. Range East is open evenings/weekends/bank holidays; Range West is essentially never open to the public except guided walks. Check firing times before walking: 01646 662367, or the range safety page on gov.uk.
Mobile signal is patchy to non-existent on many remote clifftop stretches (especially sections 1, 10, 12, 13).
Standard safety code repeated on every section page: stay on the path away from cliff edges, supervise children, wear proper footwear, carry warm/waterproof clothing, don't take beach shortcuts without checking tides, don't sit under or climb cliffs, keep dogs under close control, and note that horses/cycles aren't permitted on most of the path.
